Sir Karl Raimund Popper, born 28 July 1902 and died 17 September 1994, was an Austrian-British philosopher, academic and social commentator, known as one of the twentieth century's most influential philosophers of science for his rejection of classical inductivist views on scientific method in favor of empirical falsification through his falsifiability criterion, and for founding the Department of Philosophy at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
